Indications
Oral appliances are FDA approved devices for treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and snoring. A few of the devices are only approved for treatment of snoring and should not be used for treatment of OSA.
The devices work by either pulling the mandible slightly forward or by splinting and keeping it from falling backward. In turn, the base of the tongue will move forward and open the airway at retroglossal level.
Treatment of OSA is a medical necessity and is normally covered by most medical insurance plans. Unfortunately, treatment of snoring is not covered by insurance.
